Curtain tracks are used for commercial or heavy duty curtains that are often installed in industrial applications. They are markedly different from the curtain hardware that is used in homes and are often constructed of materials that are appropriate for industrial sites. Commercial curtain tracks are generally made of heavy duty aluminum which is thicker than the steel curtain hardware that is used in homes. The aluminum does not add to the actual weight of the curtain rod, but it provides enough strength to hold up the curtains. There are several different kinds of commercial curtain tracks, including corded, baton (hand drawn) and cubicle curtain tracks.

Corded Commercial Curtain Tracks

Corded curtain tracks are used both in homes and in industrial offices. They are often installed instead of adjustable steel rods that are commonly used in residences. One of the reasons for using heavier corded curtain tracks is that they are lighter in weight compared to steel curtain tracks, but they have the strength to hold up heavy curtains that may be installed in homes, such as blackout curtains or curtains that have heavy linings. Heavier curtains often stress lighter steel curtain rods and either bend them or pull them out of the wall. With commercial weight aluminum curtain tracks, these problems are avoided and the curtains provide excellent decorating elements while at the same time are safely installed.

Single Channel Curtain Tracks

Single channel curtain tracks are also known as baton or hand drawn curtain tracks. Single channel curtain tracks have a simple design that does not need a secondary channel for pull cords, unlike corded curtain tracks. You can commonly find single channel curtain tracks installed in hotels or motels because they are easy to maintain and use. Single track curtain tracks are also excellent for blackout curtains or heavier curtains that may be installed in homes.

Single channel curtain tracks can be installed at the top of a window in the wall or in the ceiling above a window. Many different styles of curtains can be accommodated with single channel curtain tracks, including pleated, ripple and accordion fold curtains.

Cubicle Curtain Tracks

Cubicle curtain tracks are often used with grommet drapery curtains, although they can accommodate almost any other style of curtains. Curtains that are installed with cubicle curtain tracks often also have a mesh top so that they can provide light and air through them, since they are most often installed in offices and cubicles found in industrial settings. Cubicle curtain tracks can also often be found in hospital or dental offices and provide a separation between beds or treatment chairs. Cubicle curtain tracks are also used as privacy curtains in dressing areas.

Cubicle curtain tracks can be curved, straight or angular. They are used by simply pulling the curtain to the side and are usually mounted along the ceiling.

Curtain tracks are usually installed in places where traditional curtain rods do not work. Often, you find them industrial settings, although they can be used in homes where the curtains are too heavy for lightweight steel curtain rods. Curtain tracks can be installed at the top of a window or along the ceiling.
